Jessica Alpern Brown is an visual artist that comes from a diverse background driven by curiosity. She starting her career as a photographer in the United States Navy stationed in Japan. After graduating from the New England School of Photography Jessica accepted a position as a forensic photographer for the state of Texas.


Deciding it was time to move away from the bureaucratic structure, Jessica joined the crew of a sailboat and worked as a travel photographer, navigator and handyman.

 

When she return to the U.S. her focus shifted to temporal works and the subtractive art of hand cutting paper. 

 

Jessica has worked with the Brooklyn Museum, Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, and as the Gallery Programs Manager for the Pittsburgh Center for Arts & Media. Jessica has exhibited in Pittsburgh, New York and Barcelona and is currently represented by the Boxheart Gallery. She can be found in residencies/teaching with the Pittsburgh Children's Museum and the Society for Contemporary Craft.
