Material study, experimentation, and play are essential to the processes in which I create art. My work is always generative of itself. I make objects, often repeating them in patterns or as pieces to a larger whole. I am interested in the relationships that these objects form with their counterparts and environment in which they live. All of my work is fueled by my independent research in economic anthropology and visual materials. The vigorous repetition of process that I make on each piece emphasizes anxieties towards an emerging cultural identity crisis in globalization, which has been aided by quickly advancing technology and environmental distress. I am interested in the production, distribution, and consumption of material objects, and how value moves across things and geographical locations. I use grids as a system of organization to catalogue information, and as a metaphor for societal and political structures. As it breaks down and rebuilds, bends and transforms, I question what happens to culture as it endures constant evolution. My most recent body of work embodies displacement and identity crisis via work completed on residency in the Arctic Circle.
