Antonia Andrioti

Artistic Category Artist
Career Level Emerging
Experienced With Collaboration, Commissions

With drawing, painting and stone sculpture, Greek artist Antonia Andrioti creates a peculiar hybrid of political satire, philosophical musings and one liners.

Growing up in central Athens and later living in New York City has kindled an absurdist streak in her work, manifesting as a caricature of authority.

Tying social commentary to experiments with new materials has resulted in an eclectic body of work. Moving from noisy junk yard musical instruments to baroque oil paintings of cops in tutus and self-destructive marble fertility statues, Antonia has maintained her animated style.

Growing up with architects, artist Antonia Andrioti found inspiration on family trips to archeological sites across Greece.

As an undergraduate student in England, she created metal interactive sculptures/musical instruments.

She returned to central Athens in 2000 to open her storefront studio/gallery.

In 2006 she began her MFA in painting and printmaking at the New York Academy of Art, producing a body of lively monotypes.

She was selected for the Prince of Wales Fellowship, a residency for landscape painting at Forbes Castle in Normandy, France.

Antonia has gained experience collaborating with a number of artists, producing scenic work as well as large scale sculpture in a variety of media.

From 2002, her work has been exhibited in US and European galleries, as well as public festivals in New York, Pittsburgh and Athens, Greece.
